The world famous San Diego Zoo (and its sister attraction, the San Diego Wild Animal Park) offer unparalleled opportunities for taking pictures of zoo animals. The Wild Animal Park in particular allows you to take pictures of wild animals in their natural state.

The San Diego Zoo is quite large (100 acres of exhibits), but its size pales in comparison to the Wild Animal Park which encompasses 1,800 acres of land. This wildlife preserve is located approximately 32 miles northeast of the San Diego Zoo (near Escondido) and features wild rare animals living in a more natural environment. You can take pictures of zoo animals here which appear to have been photographed in Africa or Asia (or in dozens of other locations around the world). You can also get quite a workout by hiking the park's many trails. The Wild Animal Park offers a truly unique "zoo" experience and is a great complement to the San Diego Zoo.

To take great pictures of zoo animals sometimes requires lots of patience - as well as the ability to quickly fire the shutter button when the right photo moment arrives. This is especially true at places like Sea World when many of your best photo opportunities will come during animal shows. But the end result will be some wonderful and unique photographic memories which can last a lifetime.
