Spectacular Wailua Falls is one

You can almost hear Tatoo exclaim "Da plane! Da plane!" as you stand and view beautiful Wailua Falls. This twin tropical waterfall is the same one which was filmed in the opening credits of the 1970's TV series "Fantasy Island". A short drive from the town of Lihue will bring you to this wonderful island waterfall.
Great photos of this waterfall are easy to get from the lookout area above.
How full of water the falls are depends upon the time of year that you visit. The photos on this page show the falls both ways - with a lot of cascading water and with only an average amount. But it is a beautiful site to see either way.

Just before you enter the view point parking lot, there is the beginning of a steep trail (not well defined) which leads down an embankment to the bottom of this Hawaii waterfall. It is not for the faint of heart, but it is definitely a worthwhile hike for those in shape enough to try it. You can swim at the base of the falls once you reach the bottom of the trail. Or you can hike downriver and explore the river canyon area. Just make sure that you bring some mosquito repellent.
