When it comes to activities, there are
many things to do in Hawaii -
especially on the island of Oahu.

There are literally dozens of things to do in Hawaii during a visit to the islands, and Oahu is the king in the activity department. It is the most populated island in the chain and is the location of Honolulu, one of the largest tropical cities in the world.

This lighthouse stands at the base of Diamond Head on the southern tip of the island.

Many of the famous Hawaiian landmarks seen pictured in books, magazines and on postcards are found on Oahu, Hawaii. Some of these special places are Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head peak, Hanauma Bay and Sunset Beach. Pearl Harbor Naval Base is also located here.

This photograph of downtown Honolulu was taken during my first trip to the islands in 1983. The skyline has changed dramatically over the years.

The area of Honolulu known as Waikiki features some extravagant and luxurious Hawaiian resorts. One of the finest (and oldest) of these resorts is the Royal Hawaiian Hotel which was built in 1927. It is nicknamed the "Pink Palace". The Hilton Hawaiian Village is also located in Waikiki. It was the place where Don Ho performed Hawaiian music for many years.

This aerial view of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel was taken in 1984. Even then, it was surrounded by much taller buildings. However, my father tells me that it was one of only two hotels in Waikiki back in the early 1950's (the Ala Moana Hotel was the other one).

The list of things to do in Hawaii is virtually endless, especially around the metropolitan area of Honolulu. Naturally, there are the usual and expected island favorite activities such as swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, scuba diving, sightseeing and more. But there is also lots of unique shopping opportunities at places like the Ala Moana Center and the International Marketplace in Waikiki. If you are a sports fan, the NFL Pro Bowl is played here each February. And the college football Aloha Bowl is played in December.

If you would prefer getting away from people, you can take a short drive to the north shore of Oahu where some of the best beaches in Hawaii are found (including the famous surfing spot - Sunset Beach). Beautiful Waimea Falls is also located on the north shore of the island. The television series "Lost" is filmed on Oahu as well leaving no doubt that there is plenty of open space left to explore on this beautiful island. Are there things to do in Hawaii? There are many - especially on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.

If you run out of things to do in Hawaii (not very likely to happen), you can always jump off this large rock! Located on the north shore of Oahu at Waimea Bay Beach Park.

This is peaceful and serene Waimea Falls. It is located on the north shore not far from Sunset Beach.
