Balboa Park is a special place where
you can capture beautiful and
unique pictures of San Diego.

There are many locations in the city where you can capture unique pictures of San Diego. One of the best places to create some photographic magic is beautiful Balboa Park with it's many museums and gardens. The architecture is truly "out of this world" and is an excellent subject for photography. You can spend an entire day in this large urban park and still not see all of it.

Visitors to Balboa Park can visit many different attractions.
The Natural History Museum is shown in the distance.

This is one of several fountains in Balboa Park. It is located
about midway on El Prado (which is the main walkway).

The world famous San Diego Zoo is located here in Balboa Park. So is the Old Globe Theater which features Shakespearean plays, musicals and world-premier productions. And yet another big draw to this park is the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center which features Southern California's only IMAX dome theater.

This is the beautiful Botanical Building - perhaps the most
photographed structure in Balboa Park.

San Diego tourism gets a big boost because of this beautiful scenic park in the middle of the city. Included among the many different Balboa Park museums is the Air and Space Museum. This large building houses both old and new aircraft and is a pleasure to spend some time in.

If you enjoy photography and would like to capture special pictures of San Diego, you could not do any better than Balboa Park. The Botanical Building is filled with tropical plants and landscaped beautifully inside and out. There are flower gardens and attractive fountains in the park. And lots and lots of museums and galleries (San Diego Museum of Art, Natural History Museum, Model Railroad Museum, and many more).

Beautiful building scenery abounds in Balboa Park.
This is the Visitors Center Building.

There are many large grassy areas to kick back and relax on throughout the park. And there are trees everywhere from all over the world. The park's vegetation is varied and unique (in fact, the San Diego Zoo has over 4,500 species of plants by itself). The 1,400 acre park was originally created in 1868 although most of the buildings were constructed along El Prado (the main thoroughfare) back in 1915 for the Panama-California Exposition. You can find old photographs of San Diego which document the building of Balboa Park and its many museums.
