The Mirage Resort (built in 1989) was the first of many hotel mega-resorts and Las Vegas attractions to rise up on "The Strip". It is still regarded as one of the finest places in the city to stay at. The resort has a polynesian or tropical theme to it and features several unique elements not found anywhere else. It was the home of Siegfried & Roy's performances from 1990 until 2003 and still has a White Tiger Habitat display running year-round.
The beautiful gold-tinted exterior of the Mirage Resort is complemented by the gorgeous tropical landscaping around it. This resort really looks like a sparkling desert oasis.
Another view of the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. The large As you enter the Hotel lobby, you will notice a large tropical atrium. Beyond that (behind the registration desk) is a 53 foot long aquarium filled with lots of exotic fish. But perhaps the most intriguing element of all is the large outdoor fountain in front of the resort. Nearly every hour on the hour it transforms itself into a fire breathing volcano. You can actually feel the heat that the "eruptions" generate. The resulting "lava flows" turn the surrounding water area into a lake of fire. And best of all, it is free to view the display and photograph this marvelous spectacle.

The former fountain turns into a volcano and begins to erupt.
Lava "flows" down the side of the volcano and sets the lake on fire. The Mirage Hotel and Casino is located on the Las Vegas Strip between the grand Caesars Palace Hotel and the Treasure Island Resort. There is a free tram which connects the Mirage to Treasure Island.
Directly across the street from the Mirage is the Casino Royale. While not as spectacular as some of the more recent resorts, it does light up nicely at night and makes for a good photo. The grounds of the Mirage Resort are enchanting to walk through with many types of tropical plants on display. It is a lush and beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert, and is a place you don't want to miss seeing.
The Mirage features lots of tropical landscaping. The beautiful grounds of many area hotels and resorts qualify as Las Vegas attractions in their own right. Water features are found at most of the newer hotels such as the Bellagio and the Venetian.
