Taking good landscape pictures requires good subject matter to photograph. In this regard, few States in the U.S. can match the variety of scenic beauty that Oregon possesses.
This is the McKenzie River in central Oregon. It is one of many The State of Oregon is divided from north to south by the Cascade Mountain Range. East of this mountain range lies rugged desert and canyon regions. To the west (where most of the State's population resides) lie lush forests, majestic mountain peaks, numerous rivers and lakes, and one of the most scenic coastlines to be found anywhere in the world.
View of the southern coastline of Oregon (not far from Gold Beach). My wife Karen grew up in Eugene, Oregon in the Willamette Valley. Her favorite activity of all while growing up was to spend time on the beautiful Oregon coast. The coastline is full of spectacular scenery and natural beauty from Brookings in the south to Astoria in the north (and everywhere in between). Opportunities abound to take excellent
landscape pictures of the Oregon coast.
Oregon beaches are unlike those of neighboring California. They are unspoiled and mostly uncrowded places of beauty and tranquility. Many beaches are surrounded by dense fir forests. Beautiful secluded coves and inlets are found up and down the entire coastline. Beautiful Boiler Bay on the central coast of Oregon.
There are many large rock formations all along the shoreline in Bandon, Oregon. What looks like rubble in the distance (right side of photo) is actually piles of driftwood.
Shore Acres State Park features a wide variety of beautiful flowers. Traveling further north along the coast highway brings many places worth exploring and spending time in including the town of Florence, Oregon (the spectacular Oregon Dunes Recreation Area is located here) and the town of Newport (home of the Oregon Coast Aquarium). The Oregon coast also features eight different
lighthouses
to visit and photograph. These lighthouses are located between Bandon and Tillamook.
Another thing that Oregon is known for is it's many beautiful mountain peaks and lush fir and pine forests. Among the more famous mountains is
Mount Hood
, the tallest peak in the State at 11,235 feet. Other well known mountains are Mount Jefferson, Mount Bachelor, Three-Fingered Jack, and the Three Sisters mountains. There are many spots throughout the State where you can get good landscape pictures of mountains.
The majestic peak of Mount Hood rises above the clouds.
A view of the Three Sisters mountains in central Oregon. Mountain Because of it's mountain snowpack levels and also it's high rainfall totals, Oregon has lots of rivers and many beautiful
waterfalls.
Multnomah Falls is one of those and is located in the Columbia River Gorge area east of Portland. It is the fourth highest waterfall in the United States and is also one of the most famous waterfalls in the country. Other equally spectacular waterfalls are Sahalie and Koosah Falls (near Bend, Oregon), and Salt Creek Falls (located just off of Highway 58 - southeast of Eugene). Not too far from Salt Creek Falls is beautiful Crater Lake. Gorgeous lakes and natural waterfalls make for great landscape pictures.
Beautiful and powerful Sahalie Falls is located off of Highway 126
This peaceful lake is located off of Highway 126 on the route At the other end of the landscape spectrum is the mix of urban and forested areas found in the
city of Portland, Oregon.
Nestled in the scenic northwest corner of the State, Portland has more than half of the entire population of Oregon living within its metropolitan area. It is an attractive city with many forest covered hills serving as a beautiful backdrop to the downtown skyscrapers.
If you plan on visiting and photographing the State of Oregon, you can count on capturing some unique and excellent scenic landscape pictures. It is one of the most picturesque States in the U.S.
