You can capture beautiful city
pictures of Seattle from the
top of the Space Needle.

The observation deck of the 605 foot tall Space Needle is a great location to take city pictures of Seattle from. The 360 degree view is truly incredible - especially on a clear day when Mount Ranier is visible in the distance beyond the city skyline.

My wife and I passed through Seattle on a November day in 1994. We only had time to spend one afternoon in this great Northwest city. While there, we wanted to see the view from the top of the Space Needle so we found our way there (it is not difficult to find). We were short on cash at the time and the ticket price to ride to the top was more than we expected. So we moved away from the ticket window to decide if we could really afford to do it. Just at that moment, a stranger walked up to us and handed us two free tickets to see the top - then disappeared quickly. We were stunned and yet glad at the same time and rode the elevator up to see this famous Seattle tourism landmark.

Seattle tourist attractions

Seattle has one of the most attractive skylines in the United States. The tallest building seen in this photograph is the 76 story Columbia Center Building. It reaches a height of 937 feet and is the fourth tallest building west of the Mississippi River.

As a photographer, I enjoy taking city pictures about as much as I do scenic landscapes. Capturing city skyline pictures by day or night brings me a lot of joy. And Seattle can definitely be proud of it's distinctive skyline. It is one of the most recognizable and photogenic cities in the United States.

Lots of interesting and unique skyscrapers vie for attention in the City's core.

I wish we had been able to visit Seattle during the warmer and clearer summer months. It was an overcast and cold day in November, and the skies were grey when I took these city pictures. According to Wikipedia, Seattle averages 226 cloudy days per year. So the odds of getting a great shot of Mount Ranier looming over the city are not real high most of the time. The best time to photograph this city is between the months of June and September. Unless of course, you happen to live in the area and can wait for those special clear days to happen.

Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest. There are many types of unique city pictures which can be captured throughout the downtown area.

Another great location to shoot the city skyline from is across the Puget Sound in West Seattle. If I ever make it back up there, I am going to try and scout out a good location across the water. I would love to add to my Seattle city pictures collection someday.

Safeco Field was built next door.
